Attention Ontario Clients
- Testing coverage (Ontario): In-lab Level 1 sleep studies are publicly funded by OHIP when medically indicated. Mail-out HSATs are typically private-pay.
- Equipment funding: After a qualifying diagnosis, Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP) helps fund PAP equipment after a Level 1 test—not after a level 3 diagnostic test, such as the WatchPAT ONE.
- Consults: With a valid referral, virtual consultations are OHIP-covered.

Meet online with our sleep-trained respirologist to confirm the diagnosis, discuss risks, and create a personalized treatment plan. When appropriate, a CPAP prescription is issued during the visit. This step ensures proper medical oversight—especially if symptoms are complex or you have other health conditions.
- While a doctor's referral is not required, virtual consultations are OHIP-covered with one.
If a CPAP prescription is issued during your virtual consult, you can explore our CPAP Machines to learn more about therapy.

HSAT - Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check for sleep apnea at home?
We ship you a Home Sleep Apnea Test (HSAT) kit. You wear simple sensors for one night in your own bed; your data is analyzed and reviewed by a sleep physician. If sleep apnea is confirmed, we discuss treatment and next steps.
Is a home sleep apnea test accurate?
When used in the right patients (suspected obstructive sleep apnea and minimal comorbidities), HSAT is a validated approach and physician-interpreted. If results are inconclusive or suggest central apnea, an in-lab polysomnography may be recommended. [PubMed].
Do I need a doctor's referral to order the test?
No—self-referrals are accepted. With your consent, we’ll share results with your family doctor and coordinate care.
If you do have a doctor's referral, a virtual consultation can be covered by OHIP.
Who is eligible for an at-home test?
Adults who suspect obstructive sleep apnea, without significant cardiopulmonary/neuromuscular diseases. If you’re unsure, ask and we'll help guide you.
What does a home sleep study measure?
Breathing patterns, oxygen levels, heart rate, sleep/wake time, and event indices (e.g., AHI/RDI). Your report is interpreted by a physician with clear next-step guidance.
How long does it take to get results?
Most reports are ready in as little as 48 hours after your test uploads successfully. If data is incomplete, we’ll contact you quickly to sort it out (and arrange a re-test if needed).
Is the HSAT covered by insurance or ADP (Ontario)?
HSAT itself isn’t covered by ADP. Some private plans may reimburse; we provide an itemized receipt.
What if my results show sleep apnea?
If your test confirms sleep apnea, your report will include a physician’s diagnosis and treatment recommendations. At Canadian CPAP Equipment, you can choose to book a virtual consultation where a doctor can issue a CPAP prescription if needed. From there, our Respiratory Therapist provides ongoing support, helping you get started with the right equipment and monitoring your progress. Virtual follow-up appointments are available.
